Tami Roof

For the last 34 years (33 year Teamster) Tami has given so many parents the satisfaction to know that children have and will be safely delivered to and from school in the Shelton Community. And above all Tami has no intentions to discontinue that service that she dearly loves any time soon.

 

When asked why? With a smile she states “I love doing it and helping kids is so rewarding.” Ms. Roof is a third generation school bus driver and is eager to show a picture of her father standing in front of a school bus from the year 1956! Wow have school buses evolved! Her father Fred Hilpert was a Teamster also.

 

Ms. Roof has two children; her son is a Captain Fire Fighter in California and a daughter who works in the Radiology Department at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. She also enjoys spending time with any of her 3 grandchildren. When she’s not driving school bus or spoiling the grandchildren, her favorite hobby is gardening. Her fantastic “green thumb” has won her numerous awards.

 

One story that Ms. Roof loves to talk about is recently when she and her granddaughter were at the pumpkin patch, a gentlemen approached her and asked “You’re Ms. Roof aren’t you? You drove my sister and me to school.” She stated “that was a long time ago, but it’s so rewarding that students still remembered her.”

 

Teamsters Local 252 along with her fellow employees at the Shelton School District say a hearty thank you!!
